Students in Ms. Booker's 5th grade Science class at Austin Elementary had a challenging and fun time reviewing physical properties of matter. Students collaborated using their Science knowledge and problem solving skills to solve puzzles to "break out" of a virtual escape room.
Ask the Technology Facilitator assigned to your campus to help you review physical properties in your classroom. Tell them to check with Denise Dalrymple for access. Lead4ward just published a side-by-side document comparing the previous TEKS with the new streamlined TEKS. The document is attached below.
5th Grade teachers are getting the gooseneck stand shown above, a 5 megapixel digital microscope from Smartschool Systems, included stand, software and 15 foot USB extension cord. Installation of the software requires a serial number. This number is on the envelope that the installation disk is stored in. Teachers need to hang on to this in case their computer is reimaged. I suggest storing it in the box.
The digital microscope and the accessories will be part of the classroom inventory and remain with the classroom unit. If you want to know more about the microscope, you can go here. From: Kimberly Shaw [mailto:[email protected]]

These books are linked in Forethought and in Docushare.
Regardless of grade level, students’ preconceptions can be tenacious and often follow students from one grade span to the next. Taking the time to elicit and examine student thinking is one of the most effective ways to support instruction that leads to conceptual change and enduring understanding. It is also the starting point for differentiating instruction to meet the content needs of all students. To meet the new requirement that 85% of students be able to finish the STAAR test in less than 2 hours, the test has been shortened by 8 questions. They took 2 questions from each Reporting Category. Students will still have 4 hours to complete the test. We have Earth Science binders available to the first six 5th grade teachers who respond to this blog post in the comments below. If you attended the Earth Science training for teachers new to 5th grade Science last week, you already received one.
