Welcome to the Region 10 Texas Regional Collaborative 2017-2018. We are so excited that you have considered to be part of this program for the upcoming year. As an applicant, you may be wondering a little about who we are and what we will be doing over the course of the year. You may also be wondering what adventures await you as you embark on this journey of learning and exploration in deep science content. Let me first invite you to our TRC Google Site to do some research on your own to find out a little more about our program and what to anticipate this year. This year, Science Teacher Mentors (STMs) will participate in 100 hours of professional development with TEKS aligned with matter content TEKS covering matter properties, changes, and behaviors. 60 of these hours will be spent participating in an eight day summer institute from July 10th-20th at Region 10 TRC. Mentors will continue receiving professional development opportunities both online and face to face training in order to reach the 100 contact hour commitment mark per grant requirements. You will be given a schedule of events to plan for so you are able to reach this goal. STMs will also receive support equivalent to 1,500 dollars in technology, materials for labs and investigations, office supplies, registration to conferences and more. Applications are now open for the Perot Museum's STEM Teacher Institute Through the Institute, selected teachers will:
Enrollment in the Institute requires a commitment by teachers to attend one week long (four day) summer academy as well as at least five additional weekend workshops throughout the school year. Workshops will either be Museum-based or will be offered in partnership with one of our many informal education partners. Summer academies begin in July and weekend workshops begin in September. Teachers with 5 or fewer years teaching experience in science and/or at current grade level who are striving to improve their science teaching and learning practice. Capacity: 40 teachers annually Summer Academy - July 10-13 Advanced Teacher Academy Teachers with 5 or more years teaching experience in science at current grade level. Competitive applications for this academy regularly use inquiry methods and questioning strategies to create hands-on science lessons and materials that culminate in open-ended student science assignments and projects. Capacity: 40 teachers annually Additional Benefits and Requirements: Summer Academy - July 17-20 Mentor Teacher Academy Teachers with 10 or more years teaching experience who are Advanced Teachers (see definition above) in the classroom as well as mentor peers and colleagues.
