Ft. Worth area institutions will celebrate teachers during this year’s Educator Evening in the Cultural District. During this event, view current exhibitions at each Cultural District institution, network with other educators, enjoy great food, learn about educational programs, and receive free classroom resources. Administrators, homeschool educators, librarians, PreK–12 teachers at public and private schools, preservice teachers, and university faculty are welcome. No reservations are needed.

Our Annual Event for Educators! September 23, 2017 Science Day is back! Teachers, parents, and students are invited to enjoy a fun and innovative way to connect with Zoo and Aquarium educators and community partners while discovering the world of science! Participate in all-new, hands-on activity stations for Pre-K through 8th grade. Educators will earn four (4) hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee (TEEAC) credit. To receive credit, you must attend the event for four (4) hours and participate in all booth activities targeted at the grade level you teach. Partial credit will not be given. Four (4) hour participation requirement will be verified before certificate and curriculum will be available for download. Only preregistered educators receive free parking and admission into the Zoo. Family members and others are welcome to attend but must pay regular admission ($15 for ages 12+ years / $12 for ages 3-11 / Free for ages 2 and under) and parking ($8/vehicle). Register Today! Energy in Ecosystems by Project Learning Tree September 9 8:00-11:30am Teachers of 3rd-5th grade 3.5 hours of CPE $40 per person Register Today Designed for 3rd-5th grade teachers, the Energy in Ecosystems unit investigates ways in which organisms depend on each other to survive and thrive. Students focus on forests (one of the largest and most complex types of ecosystems) and come to understand some of the interactions present in all ecosystems. In doing so, they learn to appreciate the natural systems on which we depend and begin to widen their circle of compassion to include all of nature. This workshop will be hosted by Dallas Arboretum staff educators and state Project Learning Tree coordinator, Misty Bowie. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive lifetime digital access to all of the Energy in Ecosystems e-unit. Leopold Education Project at Trinity River Audubon Center October 21 Teachers of grades K-12th 6 hours of CPE and TEEAC credit 9:00am-3:00pm $40 per person Register Today The Leopold Education Project (LEP) is an innovative, interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education curriculum based on the essays in A Sand County Almanac. There are currently five different educator resources containing 20 individual lessons within the LEP curriculum. The objectives of the Leopold Education Project (LEP) are: • To create an ecologically literate citizenry • To expand participants’ experience of “reading the landscape” • To expand educators’ skills in teaching outdoor education • To expose students to environmental literature and related activities • To share Aldo Leopold’s land ethic, his legacy and his writings with educators and students • To help people develop a personal land ethic In this workshop, our highly trained staff provides participants with active learning for a number of lessons that can be immediately implemented into their science classrooms.
